Inlet Beach Celebrates Pedestrian Underpass Opening with A "Get Down" Event

The long-anticipated pedestrian underpass at Highway 98 and Scenic 30A intersection opened last month. Just in time for the cooler fall weather, locals and visitors can now enjoy a safer and more convenient way to cross busy Highway 98.

As Northwest Florida's first pedestrian underpass, it's a major milestone for the area. The tunnel is well-lit, accessible, and designed to accommodate walkers and bikers, creating a smooth, direct route beneath the highway. No more worrying about dodging traffic or waiting at crosswalks – now, you can move freely and securely between Inlet Beach's attractions!

But it's not just about safety and convenience. The new underpass also brings an artistic touch to the area, featuring public art installations by local artists. This unique space has been transformed into a creative and colorful experience, adding a splash of beauty and inspiration to your journey.

Local businesses anticipating robust growth in the area came up with the idea for the underpass over ten years ago. Scenic Walton, an organization, led the project, which then became a collaboration between the Florida Department of Transportation, Walton County officials, and Walton County Tourism, with support from local foundations and businesses.

The opening of this underpass is a significant step forward in improving pedestrian safety and enhancing connectivity in the Inlet Beach area. The public is invited to the new pedestrian underpass's opening at the Inlet Beach Underpass Get Down on Tuesday, October 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. at 30 Avenue in Inlet Beach.

The free event starts on the south side of the underpass near Shades Bar & Grill with a ribbon cutting at 11:15 a.m., followed by a parade through the tunnel led by Ohana Music Program, and ends at 30Avenue.

The family event takes place on the green at 30Avenue, 12805 U.S. Highway 98, and includes kid's crafts, live music, and light refreshments.

The 'Inlet Beach Underpass Get Down' celebrates the hard work of all who contributed to this new addition, which allows for an easy and safe passageway under Highway 98.
