Free Summer Entry Returns to Grayton Beach and Topsail Hill State Parks
If you’re looking for a different way to experience South Walton this summer beyond the beach chair and umbrella setup, Walton County is once again making it easier to explore two of the area’s most beautiful natural destinations.
Beginning Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, complimentary day-use entry will be offered at both Grayton Beach State Park and Topsail Hill Preserve State Park. The annual program, funded by Walton County Tourism, gives visitors and locals free access to two parks showcasing some of the most unique outdoor experiences along Florida’s Gulf Coast.
This summer marks the 12th year Walton County has covered admission fees at Topsail Hill Preserve State Park and the 10th year for Grayton Beach State Park.
More Than Just Beaches
While South Walton is known for its white sand beaches and turquoise water, these state parks offer a deeper look at the area’s natural beauty. Both parks combine beach access with hiking and biking trails, rare coastal dune lakes, wildlife viewing, paddling, and shaded natural landscapes that feel worlds away from busier beach access points.
Grayton Beach State Park consistently ranks among the most beautiful beaches in the country, but many visitors are surprised to find nature trails winding through pine flatwoods and coastal scrub habitats around Western Lake.
At Topsail Hill Preserve State Park, visitors can explore more than three miles of pristine shoreline, towering dunes, freshwater lakes, and miles of trails ideal for hiking, biking, and birdwatching.
According to Walton County Tourism Director Matt Algarin, the program is designed to encourage both visitors and residents to experience the full range of eco-tourism opportunities available in South Walton.
“Walton County’s state parks offer a unique way to experience our destination, bringing together our beaches, trails, and coastal dune lakes in one place,” Algarin said. “This program creates additional opportunity for visitors and residents to explore and enjoy everything these parks have to offer.”
Beach Tram Service Expands Access
One of the biggest additions to this year’s program is enhanced access through Walton County Tourism’s Beach Tram service.
The tram system provides a more convenient and environmentally friendly way to reach the parks during the busy summer season. Besides helping visitors avoid parking issues, the service aims to reduce traffic congestion and lessen environmental impact on surrounding areas.

Algarin also acknowledged the continued partnership with Florida State Parks and Representative Shane Abbott's efforts to expand public access.
“We are incredibly thankful for our partnership with the state parks and to Rep. Shane Abbott, who worked diligently with us and at the state level to expand access,” Algarin said.
Program Dates and Hours
Free day-use admission begins Friday, May 22, 2026, for Memorial Day weekend and continues through Monday, September 7, 2026, for Labor Day.
The parks are typically open daily from 8 a.m. until sunset.
For homeowners, visitors, and locals alike, the program reminds us that some of South Walton’s best experiences lie beyond the beach access boardwalks, tucked into trails, dune lakes, and preserved stretches of natural Florida coastline.
