One of its most celebrated events, the annual SEASIDE Prize™, honors individuals whose work has significantly impacted the built environment, bringing together professionals, academics, and enthusiasts for a weekend of learning, networking, and inspiration.

A Legacy of Thought Leadership

Since its founding, the SEASIDE Institute™ has been dedicated to promoting New Urbanism and fostering a deep understanding of how design can enhance human interaction and community well-being. By hosting lectures, workshops, and symposia, the Institute serves as a hub for progressive ideas and innovative strategies that influence urban development and sustainability.

The SEASIDE Prize™: A Weekend of Celebration and Learning

The SEASIDE Prize™ weekend, held from February 7-9, 2025, is more than just an awards ceremony—it is an immersive experience that brings together some of the brightest minds in urban design and community planning. Hosted in the iconic town of Seaside, Florida, this event provides an opportunity for attendees to engage in thought-provoking discussions, gain insights from leading experts, and participate in engaging workshops that explore the evolution of urban spaces.

This years recognition goes to two distinguished individuals. Architects and academics Ellen Dunham-Jones and June Williamson are co-authors of the groundbreaking Retrofitting Suburbia series of books. For over 20 years, they have documented and advocated for successful redevelopment, re-inhabitation, and regreening of dead shopping malls, aging office parks and other parking-lot-dominated real estate into more resilient, just, and community-serving places.
