Considered by locals to be the real heart and soul of South Walton County, Grayton Beach is really where the scenic 30A all began. Once a sleepy little beachfront hamlet accessible through a few oft-traveled and sandy back roads, the Grayton Beach real estate is starting to shift from small and rustic beach-style bungalows to larger luxury home. Where once the sight of a single incoming vehicle was noteworthy, now the community welcomes thousands of annual vacationers to its beautiful shores.
With a motto like, “nice dogs, friendly people”, the laid-back attitude of the community is readily apparent. The narrow streets are lined with beautiful live oaks and magnolias and lightly dusted with the fine, pearly-white sand of the nearby beaches.
The Red Bar
Grayton Beach has managed to maintain its small town aesthetic mostly due to the established state parks that encircle it. There aren’t any proper hotels in the community, but plenty of vacation homes from modest to luxury gulf front available for rent.
The in-town hot spots are what you’d expect in a community as unique as this – locally-owned with plenty of character. The Red Bar is a prime example. The local institution once served as the town’s General Store; it’s now a local hotspot and gathering place for locals and visitors alike with a cozy, vibrantly designed interior and welcoming staff. Come for nightly live music and stay as long as you like.
Grayton Beach is a waterfront beach community through and through. The “Mosquito Fleet”, as the locals call them, are the group of seasoned charter boats ready to take visitors and locals out on fishing adventures and charter cruises on a daily basis.
The signature beaches of the 30A are a destination in and of themselves. The expansive preserved beachfront in the nearby Grayton Beach State Park are commonly regarded as “America’s most beautiful beaches”, and it’s clear why. The pristine white sand of the coast segue effortlessly into the sparkling emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico – it’s a setting like none other.
Grayton Beach State Park
The 2,000-acre Grayton Beach State Park is among the Gulf Coast of Florida’s most popular state parks. The entire coastal beach with its silky white sand is preserved land and is the ideal entry point to the beautiful sparkling emerald waters of the gulf. The coastal waters are popular for swimming, snorkeling, and camping. A separate section west of the main park even offers duplex cabins available for rent, with beach access!
Among the park’s most popular and unique attractions apart from the beach is Western Lake, the second largest of the stunning Dune Lakes that are unique to the area. A popular spot for kayakers and paddle-boarders alike, the lake is primarily fresh water but occasionally co-mingles with the salt water of the gulf. Western Lake is 214 acres but reaches a depth of no more than 8 feet at its deepest.
